Tom Skancke is the president and CEO of the Skancke Company, a government and public affairs strategy company located in Las Vegas, Nevada. For nearly two decades he has worked on many transportation infrastructure related issues throughout the west and nationally. Mr. Skancke has been involved with the past three major transportation reauthorization bills ISTEA, TEA-21 and SAFETEA-LU.
In September of 2005, United States Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) appointed Mr. Skancke to the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study commission, a twelve-member commission created in SAFTETEA-LU. This commission is responsible for studying the current surface transportation system in the United States and is ultimately responsible for making recommendations to Congress in 2007 regarding funding and policy considerations for the transportation infrastructure system for the next 50 years.
In January of 2006, Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn appointed Mr. Skancke to the State of Nevada Blue Ribbon Task Force on Transportation. Governor Guinn created this task force to review the transportation funding crisis Nevada faces for the next 20 years. This task force completed its work in December of 2006 and made substantial recommendations to the State of Nevada Transportation Board on funding and policy considerations. In 1999, Governor Guinn appointed Skancke to the CANAMEX Corridor Coalition, a five-state coalition that examined commerce, tourism, and transportation infrastructure in Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Montana. In 2001, the CCC members elected Mr. Skancke to serve as the first full time chair of the commission and he served in that capacity for two years.
In December of 2006 Governor-elect Jim Gibbons asked Mr. Skancke to sit as a member of his transportation transition team. This group of individuals is responsible for making recommendations to the governor on transportation infrastructure issues during his term.
Tom Skancke has also worked on major telecommunication reform in the state of Nevada for wireless, cable and land based technology. He has worked on health care, K-12 and higher education funding and policy. Mr. Skancke has worked on a number of campaigns and referenda across the country from local to national races. He continues to be an advisor to many of his current and former political clients. He has public affairs experience on all levels of government as well as with many regional and national agencies.
