Binational Institute on Water and Renewable Energy Workshop
Phoenix, Arizona, February 21, 2008
About the Event:
The workshop brought together academics from various universities to discuss water and renewable issues. The workshop followed the establishment of a Binational Institute for Water and Renewable Energy, "a public-private partnership that connects the research communities of all three Arizona universities with their counterparts in Mexico to inspire the region's best research minds to focus on our biggest challenges: our water resources, energy requirements and the technologies needed to sustain them in the region. Governors Napalitano and Bours Bours Castelo signed an agreement in September 2007, establishing the institute. View a copy in English of the signed agreement.
NACTS partners with the Arizona Water Institute (which coordinates Arizona's involvement in this binational effort), the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, ITESM-Campus Sonora Norte, Colegio de Sonora, CIAD, ITSON, and the University of Sonora to build cooperative, regional solutions to water and energy issues along the US-Mexico border. The Institute is established under the auspices of the Arizona-Mexico Commission and aims to become the premier source for collaborative and applied research and innovative social engagement in the Arizona-Sonora Region.
The Institute aims to propose collaborative projects from concerned entities by May 2008.
