Border Renewable Energy Development and Exchange: Obstacles and Opportunities

March 14-16, 2011, Decision Theater & the Decision Center for a Desert City, Arizona State University, Tempe Campus

The North American Center for Transborder Studies, the Southwest Consortium for Environmental Research and Policy (SCERP), and the Council of State Governments-WEST are sponsoring this initial workshop to promote a binational process of generating and exchanging less polluting, fossil fuel-free, alternative energy in the 10 U.S.-Mexico border states.  This is an invitation-only event for key stakeholders, ASU faculty, and NACTS-SCERP student sustainability fellows.

The workshop will explore opportunities and options to develop and exchange energy in the U.S-Mexican borderlands.  Working papers and a database are available on the Transborder Renewable Energy Project Page.

Agenda

Monday, March 14:

• Afternoon: Optional baseball spring training game (Games start at 1:05 pm in various ballparks around Phoenix. See below for more details.)
• 6:00 pm: Welcoming Dinner and Keynote Speakers, Four Points Sheraton Tempe Hotel

Tuesday, March 15:

• 7:30 am: Van service pick up outside the hotel lobby to the Tempe Mission Palms
• 8:00 am: Orientation Breakfast, Mission Grille Restaurant at the Tempe Mission Palms
• 9:00-11:45 am: Scenario Planning, ASU Decision Theater and Decision Center for a Desert City
• 12:00-2:00 pm: Networking Lunch and Keynote Speakers, ASU University Club
• 2:00-5:00 pm: Tours of ASU Solar and Algae Energy Generating Facilities and Labs
• 6:00 pm: Free time.  For those staying at Four Points Sheraton Tempe Hotel, complimentary shuttle service is available to the Mill Avenue District to find a variety restaurant options.

Wednesday, March 16:

• 8:00 am: Breakfast and Findings Discussion, Four Points Sheraton Tempe Hotel
• 10:00 am: Meeting End
