A Shared Vision for Arizona and Sonora

NACTS Featured as Expert Collaborator
Spring 2010

"A Shared Vision for Arizona and Sonora" is a joint declaration that aims to further consolidate the relationship between Arizona and Sonora.  Fifty-two years of collaboration between these two states are proof of a successful bilateral relationship.  This long-term and close collaboration is continuously celebrated through the Arizona-Mexico Commission (AMC) and Comisión Sonora-Arizona (CSA) Plenary Sessions that take place twice a year alternating between each state.

Working together, AMC and CSA coordinated the work of experienced professionals to frame this joint declaration between the states of Arizona and Sonora.

From its inception, NACTS has been a strategic partner for these two commissions helping to promote collaboration of Arizona with Mexico.  In Spring 2010, NACTS Associate Director Erik Lee worked closely with AMC and CSA to frame and coordinate the goals of both states into one cohesive document.  Lee served as both a writer and an editor of the document.

During a time of otherwise strained relations, A Shared Vision is a unique engagement of Arizona and Sonora.  A Shared Vision's primary intent is to promote mutual prosperity and strengthen the border region.  It articulates the principal goals on joint initiatives for the states within four core areas that reflect the current priorities of the U.S.-Mexico border region: competitiveness, quality of life, security and sustainability.  At the AMC 2011 Summer Plenary, both Arizona Governor Janice Brewer and Sonora Governor Guillermo Padrés Elías signed A Shared Vision to signify their shared commitment to better align their states' priorities.  Read the joint declaration, available under Project Resources.
