Renewable Energy Sustainability Fellows

Co-sponsored by NACTS and SCERP
Fall 2010 to Spring 2011

NACTS and SCERP (Southwest Consortium for Environmental Research and Policy) sponsored a group of four graduate and one undergraduate Student Sustainability Fellows who worked together on the NACTS Transborder Renewable Energy project in academic year 2010-11.  Student Sustainability Fellows learn how research on environmental issues related to the U.S.-Mexico border region can impact public policy through working on real challenges for a client.

The Renewable Energy Fellows worked together in teams and gathered data in three areas of the U.S.-Mexico Border: Economics, Legislation, and Geographic Information System maps identifying  renewable energy sources.  Their data was gathered into a briefing booklet for participants of the Border Renewable Energy Development and Exchange WORKshop hosted by NACTS at ASU on March 13-16, 2011.  The GIS data is posted online.

The five Renewable Energy Sustainability Fellows are listed below.  Following the student’s name are the names of their school and research:

• Darragh O’Keeffe: School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning (Fall 2010) and Research Analyst (Spring 2011). GIS data.

• Jonathan Lappen: School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning. GIS data.
• Adam Neville: Sandra Day O'Conner College of Law.  "Scan of Renewable Energy Legislation in the Mexican Border States."
• Jimi Bush: School of Public Affairs.  "Border Renewable Energy Price, Demand, Cost and Exchange Benefits."
