NACTS and SCERP (Southwest Consortium for Environmental Research and Policy) sponsored a group of four graduate and one undergraduate Student Sustainability Fellows who worked together on the NACTS Transborder Renewable Energy project in academic year 2010-11. Student Sustainability Fellows learn how research on environmental issues related to the U.S.-Mexico border region can impact public policy through working on real challenges for a client.
The Renewable Energy Fellows worked together in teams and gathered data in three areas of the U.S.-Mexico Border: Economics, Legislation, and Geographic Information System maps identifying renewable energy sources. Their data was gathered into a briefing booklet for participants of the Border Renewable Energy Development and Exchange WORKshop hosted by NACTS at ASU on March 13-16, 2011. The GIS data is posted online.
